Passport Information & Customs Requirements
Ordinarily, for a U.S. citizen, entry requirements into Culebra and Puerto Rico does not involve a passport. However, with the implemntation of the recent Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, all travelers entering the United States from some Caribbean nations are required to have a valid passport, or other officially accepted identification document. Since Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the United States, the same immigration procedure apply as in the United States. All U.S. citizens entering Puerto Rico must present a government-issued photo identification or birth certificate. All non U.S. citizens must have a valid passport to enter Puerto Rico. A visa is also a requirement, though this may be waivedin some instances. Nationals of other countries may obtain either a temporary non-immigrant visa or an immigrant visa granting permanent residency status.
